Volunteer Columbia Valley

Community grants invest in people, ideas and activities that enhance the quality of life for the communities of the Columbia Valley– from Spillimacheen in the north through to the Village of Canal Flats in the south.

Our region includes:

  • Village of Radium Hot Springs
  • District of Invermere
  • Village of Canal Flats
  • Area F and Area G of the Regional District East Kootenay (includes unincorporated communities of Spillimacheen, Brisco, Edgewater, Panorama Resort Village, Wilmer, Windermere, Fairmont Hot Springs)

Our vision is to build legacies in our Columbia Valley communities through the widest possible range of charitable organizations who work diligently to address community needs and priorities in the areas of:

  1. Arts and culture
  2. Children and youth
  3. Community facilities
  4. Education
  5. Environment
  6.  Health and safety
  7.  Literacy
  8.  Recreation
  9.  Social services
  10. Post-secondary education

In addition the Columbia Valley Community Foundation holds donor-directed funds specifically to address the needs of:

  • Fairmont Hot Springs through the Gordon Wilder Fund and the Fairmont Family Fund
  • Canal Flats through the Ann Tilley Memorial Fund

 

We enable donors to grant to the widest possible range of charitable organizations and initiatives. Total annual granting reflects Board-directed granting and the interests of people who have established donor-interest funds.

 

In order to qualify for a grant from our foundation the grantee must be a registered Canadian charity. In some cases, not-for-profit organizations will come together under a lead charity to fulfill a project for the charitable organization. Partnerships are encouraged, but with the new Canada Revenue Agency regulations (and as defined by the Income Tax Act) there are a number of matters to review to determine qualification of grant status from our Foundation.
